“As video games have become more and more popular, the medium’s defenders have developed a misguided tendency to point to the ways that games are useful, practical, functional. I do not know if Ueda’s games will make you smarter, or improve your vision, or promote world peace. I very much doubt, in fact, that they will do any of those things. Emphasizing the ways that games are tools for instruction—whether intellectual, physical, or moral—is an unfortunate residue of their origins as children’s playthings. Abandoning it will be the sign, maybe the last one, that this new form of storytelling is all grown up.”

With, as of yet, a Metacritic score of 93, Battlefield 3 has been praised by critics almost universally. However, there are some slight variations in the overall meat of the reviews.

For example, many critics have felt rather differently about the campaign. Game Informer’s Dan Ryckert claims that it has the best single player campaign since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. However, Peter Eykemans from IGN, and B. Ring / M. Sharkey from Gamespy claim that the campaign is nothing more than a halfway decent distraction from the absolutely stellar multiplayer.

Regardless, the main idea is the same. Battlefield 3 is a damned good game.

Anyone else as fucking pissed off as I am that Batman: Arkham City won’t be released for PC until mid November? This is bullshit.
